“The Voyage Out” album release!
July 14, 2010
Kat’s first studio album, “The Voyage Out,” is OUT! Yes, the long-awaited 11-song vocally driven Celtic/country record (with a little rock and pop on the side) is available for purchase. There are a few options:- Buy the CD or a digital download at CDBaby. (We recommend the hardcopy CD, though. You’ll get all the lyrics and those pretty pictures).
- Order an autographed copy of the CD directly from the Kat Devlin web site.
- Come to a Kat Devlin show (like for instance, her upcoming Santa Barbara CD release concert) and pick up a CD.
You can listen to samples of all the tunes at CDBaby.
The album was recorded at Erickson Sound Labs in Buellton, Calif. The tunes range from the foot-stomping, back-porch hootenanny, “Been There Before,” to the driving rocker, “This is Just to Say,” to the sweet and twangy waltz, “Aubade.” Kat is joined on the record by a full band—Nate Keezer on drums and percussion; Bear Erickson on bass, lap steel and electric guitar; Jim Pugh on piano and organ.

Elings Park Photo Shoot
Oct. 22, 2009
In June 2009, Kat participated in a photo shoot with one of Santa Barbara’s best photographers, Shannon Miller of Shannon Miller Photography. They spent several hours in SB’s stunning Elings Park, and Shannon was able to capture some really beautiful images that are being used for the Web site redesign and the cover of Kat’s upcoming EP, Emo Love.

Equality California posts "How Long"
May 29, 2009
Hi all,
It’s been a tough week in California, as the state supreme court upheld Proposition 8, banning gay marriage. While the decision was not entirely unexpected, it remains a major disappointment and a huge step backward.
Equality California, one of the organizations leading the fight for equal rights for the California LGBT community, has posted my post-Prop 8 song “How Long” on their blog, California Ripple Effect.
Check it out, make comments, pass it along and, most importantly, get involved. EQCA is bringing this issue back to the ballot in 2010, and they need all the support they can get. For all you folks in Santa Barbara, this starts tomorrow with a march downtown, meeting at the courthouse at noon. Hope to see you there!

California EP now for sale
Buy Kat Devlin’s new three-song EP California on iTunes, Amazon MP3 and Napster. The album features music inspired by Kat’s coast-to-coast move from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Santa Barbara, Calif., in late 2008.
“Carolyn,” an acoustic pop tune with soul, tells the story the fictional Carolyn, who hits the road to run away from demons that haunt her even from afar. “California,” a quick crowd favorite, sings the praises of this gorgeous sunshine state to friends back in New York. And the beautiful and heart-breaking “How Long” is written in response to the very unfortunate passage of California’s anti-gay measure Proposition 8 during the November 2008 election.

Emo Love EP coming soon
Kat Devlin went to the studio with lead guitarist Brendan Hackett and engineer Ghazi Al-Mulaifi to get new recordings of crowd favorites, “A Song from Shannon,” “Emo Love Song,” and “Over You.”
Visit Kat’s MySpace page to listen to the rough mixes, and stay tuned for news about the official EP release.

If you’re anything like me, you probably spent most of the 90’s ignoring all music that wasn’t girls with acoustic guitars, and worshipped blissfully at the altars of Ani, Dar, and the Indigo Girls. Newport Folk Festival? I manned the recycling booth the summer after 9th grade, thank you, and saw all 3 of the folk-dyke Holy Trinity on the same day– way before Lilith Fair was even dreamed up down at girlpower headquarters (and yes, yes, I know Dar Williams isn’t a dyke. But try telling that to a mob of Smithies, and you will get beat down). If this in any way resembles your adolescence, if you enjoy the soulful and only occasionally angsty strummings of scrappy young riot grrrrlz with something to say and the voice to belt it, then get thee down to Brooklyn for a visit to Park Slope’s Perch Cafe. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a set from Kat Devlin.
