Angelic vocals, sustaining slide guitar, bending fretless bass, and innovative percussion combine in this two-song EP, showing off Kat’s haunting Celtic/country/folk sounds. The EP, recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Bear Erickson at Erickson Sound Labs, Buellton, CA, will be followed in Spring 2010 by Kat's first full-length album. California EPBuy the EP on iTunes, Amazon MP3 and Napster. “Carolyn” Kat Devlin’s California EP showcases the tunes conceived during the artist’s move west from her Brooklyn home to the sunshine and politics of southern California. The self-produced three-song EP features pitch-perfect folk vocals backed by rhythmically finger-picked guitar. The catchy “Carolyn,” with an elaborate melody that reveals Kat’s vocal prowess, follows the journey of a girl who finds herself running away, unable to recognize a love back home. “How Long” speaks poignantly and honestly about the passage of Proposition 8 and other anti-gay measures during the 2008 election. And the mellow and pleasing crowd favorite “California,” a lyrically smart letter to a friend back East, will tempt any listener to “get yourself to California.” Emo Love EPComing soon. Hear a sneak peak below. “Over You” A reviewer once said, “Like a Hammersteinian teenager on a rural porch swing, Kat Devlin's songs return again and again to the theme of love—though never in the same way twice.” Devlin’s new Emo Love EP does just that in a three-part collection of long-awaited crowd favorites. |
